Friday

Okay so I still interpret. Sign Language away!

I didn't gt the position with College Dreams. My dissapointment was fairly heavy for a few days. With the derth of non-profit jobs in this area I have put my job search on hold. If you believe in fortune cookies I am making the right choice. Two days ago I cracked open the tasty cookie to see the message, "You project is stalled, this is a good time to focus on other repairs in your life."

Rarely do I come across a fortune which I actually believe. Making an exception this time makes sense. Hopefully in a couple more weeks I will pick up that curved beige shell to break out the message, "Resume the hunt! All is well!"

Mentor Programs

Little new news on the employment front. Still working at the College Dreams Coordinator Position. I have done a bit of networking and found out how closely my contacts are related to the position. Yesterday when one of my facebook contacts told me they knew of the position I positively glowed.

Hopefully I will be getting a call any day now either way.

In other news I am playing an online game/world with friends from out of the country. I was very excited to be able to communicate with them more regularly but fear an addiction could become evident. The game allows one to build ships so now I can assert my piratical tendencies. World beware! I even hear there is a game where pirating is the leading role.

Evil introductions...First ultima online, then secondlife, now vanguard....my social sphere has suddenly become abundantly digital.

Take care all and if you see me in rl (real life) save me from the bsod (blue screen of death) and too many lol's and rofl's (laugh out loud and rolling on the floor laughing).

Week rolling by

Things have been fairly calm lately. I applied to a position with College Dreams. Wonderful place working with kids struggling under enormous pressures in life in order to get them to a better life basically. I would go into more depth, however I think I will save it for my celebration after being hired.

In other news, the program I currently work for is undergoing tensions with union/administrative negotiations. The administration has requested mediation. I would rather not envision what would happen to students if the certified staff went on strike. Difficult to fulfill the roles of our regional programs.

Take care, good morning, and good night,
Rory

Found a new road

Spun wheels long enough, found a new road to travel. Looking into becoming a bit of a farmer and working for a local not-for-profit. Wheel (hehe) si ware this leeds. Anyone come up with an alternate for "this" leave a comment and the credit will go to you?

I am currently working on two projects. One is a nice slide/video of my brother's wedding. The other is a blooper reel which I can't post online due to the compromising nature of my subject. Hehe...evil grin. So once I finish all that I should get back to post regularly....or rather start posting in that manner.

Take care,

Rory/Njorn

C'est la vie

Salute,

Well life has been slow. Found a nice television show "Burn Notice" on USA. This keeps me entertained between resumes.

Just a note to any future non-profit development wanna be's...it takes a load of effort to get a position in this field and study for the foreign service exam. Beyond just studying geography, history, and politics I concurrently read up on grant writing, and fundraising. Honestly the politics and economics run well with both sets of study yet it makes for dull day.

At least subversive study of french and swahili keeps me well rounded.

Hoping your weather is as wonderful where you are as it is here. Maybe you can even get off the computer long enough for full enjoyment. As you stand in the shade drinking a lemonade with a stalk of lavender plunked within, remember my jealousy.

Prius at 100 MPH

HAHA for everyone who has asked me about the power in my Prius check out this article.

Who says the Prius can't get out of its own way?

Not that I ever want to go that fast, ruins my mileage, I do best around 55 mph though 45 can bump me up a couple mile-per-gallon in the right circumstances.

News

I was just reading a blog on the Huffington Post. The full article is more of a rant but I am thinking about the idea in the last paragraph.

It is not about "protectionism" nor about so-called "free trade." The question is: what are the rules? Right now, trade deals are structured primarily around the interests of capital and investment. And, with all due respect to Rangel, his deal with the Administration barely scratches the surface. In fact, I've never believed that side agreements on labor and the environment will change much (because they are almost impossible to enforce) until the very nature of these deals are changed.
The real challenge is to scrap the NAFTA-style trade deals. The only way to do that is to start with a blank page and start with the following premise: trade is about trying to improve the standard of living of communities. When you answer that premise, then, labor rights and the environment are addressed as fundamental pillars of any agreement--not grafted on as an after thought. And, then, and only then, would we ask the question---how do corporations help society reach that goal?

So I now have something to mull over in this debate just as I was becoming bored with dicussions of free trade and guidelines that never seemed to be enforceable. For the article he is ranting about go to "New York Times"
